Kitchen Table Family

Once a month, just before the big Polyam + Kink Meetup, we invite you to the new Kitchen Table Family Meetup.

  • On the 4th Friday each month
  • From 17:30 to 18:45.
  • You can bring your children, if you want - see below.
  • We’ll tell you the venue when you sign up at info@kitchentable.social. There is information below about what the venue is like.
  • If you have symptoms of a cold, or are currently contagious in another way: please stay at home. The next meetup will be next month already.
  • 2G+: Please be vaccinated against Covid or recovered from it. And do a quick test (self test is okay) on the day you’re coming. If you don’t have a test at home, you can get one from us and do it when you get there.

What is Kitchen Table Family?

A meetup for all of us who have a family with kids, or want one at some point.

Our society puts up many extra barriers for polyamorous parents, from familial and social issues (“But won’t you be confusing the children?”) to solid legal issues - e.g. who is allowed to pick up the child from daycare?

There are already quite a few people who live like this, or want to do it in the future.

Whether you’re polyamorous or not, the other Kitchen Table topic, BDSM, is also relevant for families. How do we handle everyday situations? What can we do so children don’t notice anything they shouldn’t notice? What can and should children know about sexuality, what are they allowed to know, and at what ages? How do we teach them consent?

We hope that Kitchen Table Family can help us support each other in all these areas.

Of course you can always talk about these issues at the “big” Polyam + Kink Meetup. But here you have the possibility to do so with a bit more focus, with others who are or were in a similar situation.

And to make this a bit more compatible with everyday family life, you can bring your kids along. There is enough space at the venue, and there is even a terrace with a sandbox for sunny days.

If you want, bring food and snacks!

Just like at the big meetup our values apply to this event as well.

Queer people as well as Black, indigenous and other people of color are explicitly welcome, as are people with dis_abilities. You can read what we’re doing to make our meetups as safe as we can at Our Values and Our Rules.

Please feel free to contact us if you have questions, or if you have a particular need that should be discussed beforehand, we will try and help.

For now, Kitchen Table Family will always be before the big meetup. That means it will go only until 18:45, because the event coming after that is for adults only.

As legal guardians you can bring your family’s children to Kitchen Table Family. Please note that you are responsible for taking care of your children, including what they can hear, observe, and process.

Our meetups are all at least bilingual with German and English. It may happen that someone speaks to you in a language you don’t expect or understand. We still have a nice evening together, and where desired we’ll help with translating.
